Expressing Yourself with Design

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

It seems that more and more homeowners are decorating and designing their homes from magazine cut outs and by what other people tell them. These sources may have good ideas and their designs work great, but you have to be careful not to fall into a trap of decorating your home to their taste.

If you’re trying to find a new trend to decorate with, make sure you’re really in love with the style. There is nothing worse than spend all the time and money on a space and then having it be un-functional and irritating to live in. Don’t be afraid to try new things, but don’t change a wall color because it looks good in a magazine even though you know it will be uncomfortable being surrounded by it every day.

Remember to scale your furniture to the room you are placing it in. Don’t buy a luxurious couch when you know it will either over power the room or it will be too small and insignificant. Remember that functional knickknacks are best and you should put away all the clutter that is just sitting around.

A harmonious balance between design and self-interest will bring about the best results.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard where people can “collect” pictures.  It is a place to organize and share the things that you love.  People can find design ideas, do-it-yourself crafts, recipes, ideas for weddings and travel ideas.  Whatever you are looking for Pinterest will have an idea for you.

The main appeal to Pinterest.com is that it is easy to use and helps eliminate the need for magazines.  Everyone has a “board” where they “pin” their image.  People can follow their friends, celebrities and also find new friends with the same interests.  Your followers will see all your new ideas and inspirations.  The images can be liked, commented on or re-pinned to their own boards.

You can follow us on Pinterest under Focalpointflooring.  We showcase some of our own installs along with what inspires our designers.  You will also find a board titled Eye Catching, Fun Loving and Yum! Delicious.  This is where we post fun and yummy ideas in addition to our design styles.

We hope you follow us for inspiration and we look forward to following you for our own inspirational ideas.  We are here to make your “pinning” home and remodel dreams a reality.

Happy Pinning!!

Crafty Tile Idea!

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

The Crow River Girl Scouts host a Holiday Shopping Mall every year as a community service project for the children in our area and as a troop fundraiser. Children from ages 3 to 10 are escorted by a Girl Scout to do shopping for parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. The children purchase items ranging from 50 cents to 5 dollars. All the items are wrapped and tagged before they leave. The children leave with such excitement of shopping without their parents and are anxious to give their gifts! FocalPoint is proud to a part of this event this year by donating some tile to a local St.Michael/Albertville Girl Scout troop. The troop took the tile and turned them into coasters. We heard back from the troop and they were a big success. They were a hot item and they sold every set. FocalPoint congratulates Girl Scout Troop 13502 for using their resources wisely.

Epoxy Flooring

Friday, August 5th, 2011

With all the flooring options available today, there is one that is growing in popularity that you may not have considered, epoxy flooring.  This innovative product is being recognized for its long list of benefits and is moving out of the garage and showing up in some unexpected spaces throughout the home.

Epoxy flooring is now available in dozens of decorative options and custom designs.  Its durability is hard to beat, lasting 15-30 years in most applications.  This product is the ultimate in low maintenance flooring for many reasons.  Epoxy floors are waterproof, resistant to acid, chemicals and oil, are seamless and non-porous, and prevent the growth of mold and bacteria.  Epoxy floors are also a great way to add traction to an otherwise slippery environment.  It is simple to see why people are taking a harder look at what epoxy has to offer.

Now that home owners have recognized the benefits of epoxy it is showing up in many new spaces throughout the home.  What once was only used in the garage can now be seen in game rooms, kids playrooms, laundry rooms, finished basements, bathrooms, sunrooms, and even kitchens and living rooms!  The endless color and design options provide a look for everyone’s individual taste and space.

While some big-box retailers do sell do-it-yourself epoxy sets, they are almost never 100% epoxy like the product you would receive from a professional application.  Proper substrate preparation and application is essential to getting the look and durability you want, so professional application is recommended to ensure the epoxy floor has the look and performance to do the job expected for many years to come.  The installers will first grind down your concrete to create a level area and open the pores allowing for the best bond.  Once the floors are properly ground down they will apply multiple layers of epoxy in the color you chose.  Color chips or small colored quarts pieces can then be added in any pattern to add another dimension of color and traction.  A chemical resistant polyurethane coating seals the deal and ensures your floors will look great for many years no matter what you throw at them.

With the many benefits and custom design options, it is no secret why epoxy floors are becoming the new flooring option of choice in many homes.  If you want a durable floor with little maintenance and endless color options, epoxy flooring may be the right choice for you too!  Epoxy flooring is just another one of the many services we offer at FocalPoint Flooring & Cabinets, so stop in and talk to one of our knowledgeable staff members today!

Builders Carpet is now branded as FocalPoint

Friday, November 19th, 2010

After years of being known as Builders Carpet, Inc., we are rebranding ourselves as FOCALPOINT Flooring Cabinets and Design. We are still the same great company, same great staff and same great service. It seemed no matter how hard we tried to market ourselves to the retail public during our first 19 years; it was hard for some people to get past the “Builders” part of our name. We always had people ask if we only sold to builders. So…here we are…so excited about this new path we’re taking to grow our retail business, while continuing work with builders/remodelers and commercial contractors, which we know so well!
