Chic Kitchen with Recycled Countertops

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Green counter tops can be up to 85 percent recycled glass. They can be made to fit any shape, size, and/or color the customer likes. The process of making the countertops involve recycled glass, bonding agents or resins and if wanted addition stone to enhance the look.

Recycled counter tops have several benefits over stone tops. They are non-porous which means they never have to be sealed. Because of this you never have to worry that a spill left on the surface will soak in and stain the stone. When using these tops you will find that they are very simple to maintain and keep clean; you are also less likely to scratch the surface.

When designing your countertop you also can customize your back splash to match perfectly. Being able to use glass on both surfaces will help maintain cohesiveness and also give you a one of a kind look you won’t be able to find anywhere else in the industry.

New Trend in Porcelain Tile

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Porcelain tile with a wood finish is starting to make a big impression for both Residential and Commercial settings. You get the look of wood that people have come to love without the hassle and maintenance of a real wood floor.

Don’t get us wrong, we love real wood floors, but it is not always ideal for all locations and lifestyles. Wood designed porcelain tiles are a new and fresh option for many people.

American Florim is one manufacture that has the “wood” tile look down to an art. As you can see here (Florimusa), the Forest line achieves a beautiful look with the high definition graphics on glazed porcelain. It comes in 5 different colors with coordinating wall base.

There are many reasons to choose impervious porcelain tile over other floor coverings. It offers the largest array of design options and holds its value the longest. In a comparison between the many different floor options, porcelain tile offers one of the most durable and least expensive options over the lifespan of the building.

Stop into one of our 3 locations to see the new trend in tile.  You’ll be glad you did!

Is Your Small Bathroom Cramping Your Style

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Small bathrooms can become very frustrating, especially when you start to think about remodeling them.

There are many things to take into consideration before you start. Does your family take baths? If not, then your room would benefit from a standing shower. Can you take an adjoining closet and expand your bathroom? You also have to consider building codes that will limit how close you can put fixtures as well as clearance for your utilities.

Once you figure out your bathroom size you can focus on the content. For small bathrooms floating cabinets/vanities work great. They expand the room size without giving up storage.  The space below can be used for baskets, towels, and anything else you like. You also should look for some innovative storage techniques. By using built in shelves you can not only get a nice fresh look but also functionality.

Do not over do your small bathroom. Too many objects will make the space cluttered and cause the eye to be distracted. You should also consider using lighting in various areas of the room. This will help bring cohesion to your space.

Tiling Your Way to a Great Bathroom

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

A great look to consider is tiling your bathroom walls. Tiling the walls will help bring a dramatic look into the bathroom and also give a great focal point when guests enter. There are a lot of tile options when you think about starting. You can use small pencil tiles to give a nice accent to your counter and mirror section, try running them vertical to give an interesting twist and also heighten the wall.

Large tiles can be a great look if you’re covering the entire wall, usually they are rectangular and look best when put tightly together. If you want to bring some color and inconsistency to your wall try mixing darker colored tiles into the pattern. This will give depth and move the eye from section to section.

Grout comes in all variety of color. White grout works well with almost any tile and can pull random colored tile together nicely. You can also try using a darker or lighter shade of grout to give a little color boost to your wall. If you are going to use a brown  tile try picking a grout two shades dark or lighter to give a little accent to your wall.

Crafty Tile Idea!

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

The Crow River Girl Scouts host a Holiday Shopping Mall every year as a community service project for the children in our area and as a troop fundraiser. Children from ages 3 to 10 are escorted by a Girl Scout to do shopping for parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. The children purchase items ranging from 50 cents to 5 dollars. All the items are wrapped and tagged before they leave. The children leave with such excitement of shopping without their parents and are anxious to give their gifts! FocalPoint is proud to a part of this event this year by donating some tile to a local St.Michael/Albertville Girl Scout troop. The troop took the tile and turned them into coasters. We heard back from the troop and they were a big success. They were a hot item and they sold every set. FocalPoint congratulates Girl Scout Troop 13502 for using their resources wisely.
