Crafty Tile Idea!

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

The Crow River Girl Scouts host a Holiday Shopping Mall every year as a community service project for the children in our area and as a troop fundraiser. Children from ages 3 to 10 are escorted by a Girl Scout to do shopping for parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. The children purchase items ranging from 50 cents to 5 dollars. All the items are wrapped and tagged before they leave. The children leave with such excitement of shopping without their parents and are anxious to give their gifts! FocalPoint is proud to a part of this event this year by donating some tile to a local St.Michael/Albertville Girl Scout troop. The troop took the tile and turned them into coasters. We heard back from the troop and they were a big success. They were a hot item and they sold every set. FocalPoint congratulates Girl Scout Troop 13502 for using their resources wisely.

Happy Thanksgiving!

“Slow Down Therapy” ~ Author Unknown

  1. Slow down; you’re not responsible for doing it all yourself—at least not right now.
  2. Remember a happy, peaceful time in your past. Rest there. Each moment has richness that takes a lifetime to savor.
  3. Set your own pace. When someone is pushing you, it’s OK to tell them they’re pushing.
  4. Take nothing for granted: watch water flow, the corn grow, the leaves blow, and your neighbor mow.
  5. Taste your food.
  6. Notice the sun and the moon as they rise and set. They are remarkable for their steadypattern of movement, not their speed.
  7. When you talk with someone, don’t think about what you’ll say next. Take time to listen and your thoughts will spring up naturally.
  8. Create a place in your home…at your work…in your heart…where you can go for quiet and recollection. You deserve it.
  9. Allow yourself time to rest. Rest isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity.
  10. Listen to the wind blow. It carries a message of yesterday and tomorrow-and now. NOW counts.
  11. It’s ok to rest on your laurels sometimes. They bring comfort whatever their size, age, or condition.
  12. Talk slower. Talk less. Don’t talk. Communication isn’t measured by words.
  13. Give yourself permission to be late sometimes. Life is for living, not scheduling.
  14. Listen to the song of a bird; the complete song. Music and nature are gifts, but only if you are willing to receive them.
  15. Take time just to think. Action is good and necessary, but it’s fruitful only if we muse, ponder, and mull.
  16. Make time for play at the things you like to do. Whatever your age, your inner child needs re-creation.
  17. Learn to stand back and let others take their turn as leaders. There will always be new opportunities for you to step out in front again.
  18. Take time to read. Thoughtful reading is enriching reading.
  19. Take a day off–alone. You can learn from hermits without becoming one.
  20. Pet a furry friend. You will give and get the gift of now.
  21. Work with your hands. It frees the mind.
  22. Take time to wonder. Without wonder, life is merely existence.
  23. Sit in the dark. It will teach you to see and hear, taste and smell.
  24. Once in a while, turn down the lights, the volume, the throttle, and the invitations. Less really can be more.
  25. Take a walk-but don’t go anywhere. If you walk just to get somewhere, you sacrifice the walking.
  26. Count your friends. If you have one, you are lucky. If you have more, you are blessed. Bless them in return.
  27. Count your blessings – one at a time and slowly.
  28. Let go. Nothing is usually the hardest thing to do – but often it is the best.

Epoxy Flooring

Friday, August 5th, 2011

With all the flooring options available today, there is one that is growing in popularity that you may not have considered, epoxy flooring.  This innovative product is being recognized for its long list of benefits and is moving out of the garage and showing up in some unexpected spaces throughout the home.

Epoxy flooring is now available in dozens of decorative options and custom designs.  Its durability is hard to beat, lasting 15-30 years in most applications.  This product is the ultimate in low maintenance flooring for many reasons.  Epoxy floors are waterproof, resistant to acid, chemicals and oil, are seamless and non-porous, and prevent the growth of mold and bacteria.  Epoxy floors are also a great way to add traction to an otherwise slippery environment.  It is simple to see why people are taking a harder look at what epoxy has to offer.

Now that home owners have recognized the benefits of epoxy it is showing up in many new spaces throughout the home.  What once was only used in the garage can now be seen in game rooms, kids playrooms, laundry rooms, finished basements, bathrooms, sunrooms, and even kitchens and living rooms!  The endless color and design options provide a look for everyone’s individual taste and space.

While some big-box retailers do sell do-it-yourself epoxy sets, they are almost never 100% epoxy like the product you would receive from a professional application.  Proper substrate preparation and application is essential to getting the look and durability you want, so professional application is recommended to ensure the epoxy floor has the look and performance to do the job expected for many years to come.  The installers will first grind down your concrete to create a level area and open the pores allowing for the best bond.  Once the floors are properly ground down they will apply multiple layers of epoxy in the color you chose.  Color chips or small colored quarts pieces can then be added in any pattern to add another dimension of color and traction.  A chemical resistant polyurethane coating seals the deal and ensures your floors will look great for many years no matter what you throw at them.

With the many benefits and custom design options, it is no secret why epoxy floors are becoming the new flooring option of choice in many homes.  If you want a durable floor with little maintenance and endless color options, epoxy flooring may be the right choice for you too!  Epoxy flooring is just another one of the many services we offer at FocalPoint Flooring & Cabinets, so stop in and talk to one of our knowledgeable staff members today!

Builders Carpet is now branded as FocalPoint

Friday, November 19th, 2010

After years of being known as Builders Carpet, Inc., we are rebranding ourselves as FOCALPOINT Flooring Cabinets and Design. We are still the same great company, same great staff and same great service. It seemed no matter how hard we tried to market ourselves to the retail public during our first 19 years; it was hard for some people to get past the “Builders” part of our name. We always had people ask if we only sold to builders. So…here we are…so excited about this new path we’re taking to grow our retail business, while continuing work with builders/remodelers and commercial contractors, which we know so well!
